Types of land in Kerala.
Residential land.
Malayalam: പുരയിടം.
Residential lands are dry lands approved for construction developments and do not fall under the following categories as per the Kerala Government law.
Paddy Land.
In Malayalam: Nilam/നിലം – കണ്ടം – പാടം)
This type of land is listed in the Kerala Data Bank under the 2008 Act and is protected by strict laws.
Wetland
In Malayalam: Chathupp/ചതുപ്പ് ഭൂമി – വെള്ളക്കെട്ട് ഭൂമി.
Waterlogged areas are suitable for paddy or agricultural activities.
Dry Agricultural Land
In Malayalam: Punchappadam – പുഞ്ചപ്പാടം
Land utilised for agricultural production, without a watershed. Normally used for seasonal crops (പുഞ്ചപ്പാടം) or cultivating by manual water supply.
These types of land are classified under the Kerala Land Utilisation Order (KLU).
